Lymo thumped in T20 Cup Final

Lymington's dreams of winning their first T20 Cup final since 2009 were emphatically crushed in the final at St Cross yesterday. Lymo were blown away early in the match by two of their former players in Kamran Dhariwal and Gareth Schreuder. Dhariwal, who joined St Cross from Lymington at the start of this season, struck an incredible 124 from just 43 balls. His brutal innings included 13 sixes and 6 fours, and the Lymo bowlers, fielders and supporters could only stand and stare in admiration as six after six sailed over the boundary. By comparison, Schreuder was fairly sedate, taking all of 35 balls to rattle up his 66 not out! How Lymington could have done with key bowlers Ed Withington (now back in Australia) and Mo Abbas (injured) as St Cross compiled a massive 245-5. Gareth Berg was the only bowler to emerge unscathed, recording the admirable figures (given the circumstances) of 1-21 from his four overs. Berg, Ryan Scott and Terry Crabb each held on to good catches in the deep, but those were small crumbs of comfort to the shellshocked Lymington team as they trooped off at the break.

Facing a virtually impossible task, the Lymington batters struggled from the off against some excellent St Cross bowling. Berg was again the standout, striking the only two sixes of the innings on his way to 47, but he received precious little support as Lymo collapsed to 75 all out and a thumping 170 run defeat. Felix Organ, one of three county players in the St Cross side, continued his prosperous season against Lymington, taking 5-8 as Lymington's last seven wickets fell for just 13 runs.

It was a fairly ignominious end to a fine cup run, but it shouldn't detract from a positive season which saw Lymington claim their highest ever SPCL finish.

Finally, congratulations to St Cross who thoroughly deserved to complete the league and cup double and were excellent hosts for the final.
