Lymington I overwhelm league leaders Burridge

Lymington I overwhelm league leaders Burridge

Lionel Colby25 May - 07:17

Robbie Hemmings and Gareth Berg star

Lymington hammered Burridge by 122 runs in a low scoring game and remain in second position just two points behind local rivals Bashley. The damp cloudy day favoured the seamers with the ball moving around and making batting difficult. The conditions were ideal for Lymington captain Gareth Berg as he took 7-21 and as he said it “took me four overs to get a fuller and straighter line and rhythm” but then the wickets tumbled to him.

Berg took two wickets in each of his sixth, seventh and ninth overs destroying the Burridge innings with his accuracy and swing. Also his first four overs were all maidens including one wicket maiden. There were six ducks in the Burridge innings as wickets fell steadily. Only overseas player Toby Snell (19), Sachin Suresh (14) and Dan Stancliffe (20 not out) provided any resistance. Eddie Withington (1-23) again took a wicket in his first over while 16-year old Islander Bertie Adkins playing only his second game for Lymington I took 1-18. Monam Abbas (1-3), fresh from playing for Dorset, finished off the innings. Wickets were either mainly bowled, with Berg taking four, or caught behind with wicket keeper Robbie Hemmings bagging three.

At the start of the day Lymington had lost the toss and were put in to bat and it was Robbie Hemmings (87 not out) who laid the foundation for the victory. He might have just been celebrating finishing his exams but still played a disciplined innings batting for 40 overs and facing 134 balls that included eight fours. He enjoyed a 77 run partnership with Ryan Scott (29) and 33 with Gareth Berg (10). Hemmings was then helped by a cameo innings from Jovan Dhariwal (24 not out) to ensure a respectable total of 187 in the 50 overs. Previously, opening the batting Ben Shoare (6) and Monam Abbas (22) got the Lymington innings off to a good start despite having to face the moving new ball. Opening bowler Sullivan White took 2-29.

This coming Saturday the side are away to bottom of the table Basingstoke in another limited (50) overs game with a 12.30 start.
